I thought I knew England. I’ve lived here for decades. However, there are always new and wonderful discoveries to be made.
This year, I discovered the Ashdown Forest and it’s lovely. It was the inspiration for A.A. Milne’s Winnie the Pooh books which he wrote for his son, Christopher. I was thrilled to walk a mile or so from the attractive village of Hartfield through fields and woodland to reach the bridge where pooh sticks were, and still are being, played (so charmingly illustrated in the books by E.H. Shepard).
